Wednesday:

Departure time from SAN JOSE / Parque Morazán: 10.30 a.m. 

(We can pick you up in any Alajuela or San Jose's Hotels)

First Stop: GRECIA. We’ll visit the cleanest town in Latin America. From its airy red metal church with delicate wooden filigree altars to the well-kept home s of its farmers, it still exudes the goodness and simplicity that many others parts of the country have lost.  We’ll see a lot of Coffee & Sugar Cane Plantations

Next Stop: SARCHI  - the small town of Sarchí is the home of Costa Rica’s traditional brightly painted ox carts. You can watch artisans creating beautiful wooden bowls, plates, furniture, and walking sticks decorated with animals and birds. To buy souvenirs we’ll stay here 1 hour or less.

The next stop will be ZARCERO. Is one of most charming Costa Rica towns, its climate is fresh and invigorating. Here you’ll see the fancifully sculpted bushes in front of its picturesque little church: gigantic green rabbits, horses, ox carts and elephants.

After Zarcero we’ll go to the Northern Zone of Costa Rica. Ciudad Quesada is a bustling commercial center located in the San Carlos plain of central Alajuela Province, one of Costa Rica’s most agriculturally productive zone.

 

One hour later we’ll arrive to La Fortuna de San Carlos. We will see Arenal Volcano from La Fortuna. Arenal was dormant until the late 1960s, and the only people who suspected that is was a volcano were those who had scaled it and found a crater and steam vents at the top. But few listened to them, until a series of earthquakes began shaking the area late in the evening of July 28, 1968. The following morning, Arenal blew, sending out shock waves. 78 people had died. Three new craters formed during the eruptions.

 

Ten minutes after La Fortuna we will arrive to CERRO CHATO ECO LODGE, a small Bed and Breakfast located at the base of the volcano. It is also off the main road enough to avoid sounds of grinding gears that are audible from almost all hotels.

Ride around Arenal Volcano National Park and Arenal Lake.

Tabacon Hot Springs Resort. Including dinner at 7:00 pm. Entrance fee, towels and lockers includes too. We will go back to the lodge 9:30 pm.

 

Thursday:

7:30 am. Breakfast time in Cerro Chato Eco Lodge

8:30 am. Horseback Ride to Río Fortuna Waterfalls: (3hours)

12:30 pm. Lunch. Restaurant: La Choza de Laurel in La Fortuna.

 2:00 pm. Departure time to San José.
